Meet the Alumni: Steve Mounts

Steve Mounts with Stephanie and AspenProgram/Year of graduation: MBA/MHA 1999/2000

What I’m doing now: I remain an officer (Lieutenant Colonel) in the U.S. Air Force and am serving overseas in South Korea at Osan Air Base. I am the Chief Operating Officer at the Air Force hospital on Osan Air Base and help to provide health care and combat medical capability (if necessary) for over 10,400 active duty service men and women and their families.

My favorite UF memory: Other than watching every Gator football game, I’d have to say delivering the graduation address to my MBA class in the summer of 1999. It was a thrill to have been asked to address my class on such a special occasion. We had a great group of men and women from all walks of life, and I know they are all enjoying very successful careers as professional Gator Alumni!

Best lesson learned at UF: I learned that navigating the politics of a health care organization is no easier in the civilian setting than it is in the military setting. (Thanks Pat Winning, I hope you are doing well).

People would be surprised to know: I have always aspired to take up architecture and truly enjoy designing buildings and optimizing work spaces.

Family: I am happily married to Stéphanie Mounts (formerly Gaveau) and we have a wonderful Great Pyrenees named Aspen.

In the future I hope to: Finish a successful career in the Air Force and find a satisfying job in Europe so we can enjoy my wife’s home country of France and raise a family.
