A Welcome from the
Department of Communicative Disorders
John C. Rosenbek, Ph.D., Chair
Welcome
to the Department of Communicative Disorders! Located within the College
of Public Health & Health Professions at the University of Florida Health
Science Center, Communicative Disorders is a growing department encompassing
clinical services in the professions of audiology and speech-language pathology,
programs for graduate and professional education, and a variety of applied
research activities.
Our clinical, educational, and research programs are innovative and on the cutting-edge of our professions. At the Speech and Hearing Center at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida, our faculty and students offer the most recent diagnostic and rehabilitation technologies for children and adults with hearing impairments, as well as language, voice, and swallowing problems. Graduate programs in Audiology (Doctor of Audiology or Au.D.) and Rehabilitation Science (Ph.D.) reflect forward thinking approaches to graduate education in our professional content areas. In addition, we are constantly striving to expand post-graduate educational opportunities through continuing education activities and specialty certification programs for those seeking intense, advanced professional education and clinical training.
Our energetic faculty and staff are dedicated to quality and innovation in the provision of clinical services and the education of future audiologists and speech-language pathologists. Many are recognized internationally for their clinical and/or research expertise. Our Department of Communicative Disorders in the College of Public Health & Health Professions, works closely with the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in fulfilling teaching and research missions. Department faculty members also collaborate with colleagues in the College of Medicine, the V.A. Medical Center in Gainesville, the Brain Rehabilitation Center, the Rehabilitation Outcomes Research Center, the Brooks Center for Rehabilitation Research Studies and the University of Florida Brain Research Institute.
