The RSD program’s goal is to prepare rehabilitation scholars to address the need for faculty in the rehabilitation disciplines. This Ph.D. program is the only one of its kind in the Southeast, and the largest in the United States. RSD students prepare for an academic / research career in rehabilitation science by developing skills in teaching, research, and interdisciplinary teamwork. Students design their own specialty areas within one of three broad categories (Movement Science, Communication and Swallowing Science, and Disability Science) or a related area consistent with career goals. Participating departments in the program include: occupational therapy, physical therapy, rehabilitation counseling, and communicative disorders.

The College of Health Professions is one of six
Colleges comprising the University of Florida
Health Science Center, the major teaching referral
center for north central Florida and southern
Georgia. The other colleges include:

The Health Science Center houses a spacious, modern library and is affiliated with
the Brain Institute, the Veteran Administration, and Shands Hospital.
